Today is Valentine's Day and I've decided to write you a love letter. I do not think there is a love stronger than the love a mother has for her child, and so I find it completely appropriate to write to you about it on this day.
When I was younger I remember picking out valentines for my classmates. I would save the biggest ones of each set for my favorite people in the class. One for the teacher, of course, and one for your second cousin, and then one for my secret crush, whoever that happened to be. Now, I teach my students that Valentine's Day is the time we share how much we love and cherish each other. I teach them that the best valentines are made and written with love. That's something I would have taught you too.
My love for you is indescribable and very complicated. I love you more and more with every waking day, and yet the thought of you brings tears to my eyes and sadness to my heart. You, my sweet girl, do not bring me saddness- the lack of you does. I long to hold you in my arms and kiss your cherub cheeks.
Not everyone is lucky enough to be hit with cupid's arrow, and when I saw your perfect little face on the screen for the first time I knew that was exactly what happened because I was instantly in love. It wasn't the same love I feel for your daddy, it was deeper and much more profound. You were everything. You still are. Not once did I predict on that day that I would actually have a cherub of my own.
Your godmother says you changed the world in 8 months and she's right. Some people can live their whole lives without making any good impact and yet you were able to do that in 8 months. The blood your daddy and I donate will save lives. Lives that may not have been saved if it weren't for you. Your daddy and I have made it our mission to have your name live on through us. All the good we do will be because of you.
Though your life was short, you impacted our lives for the better. Your daddy and I are better people because you were here and because you loved us.
I will love you and miss you always, my precious Eve Believe.
Love,
Mommy
